One of the signs that you are getting older is that you seem to need more, yet cannot find enough breathing room. This is even more pronounced if you are a mother and a work at home mom at that. I decided to combine both WAHM Encouragement and Word Filled Wednesday because this week’s encouragement is from a verse of scripture which I read earlier in the week. I’ll post the King James Version (kjv), which is what I read and the version from The Message, which is what I went to look up so that I could understand the KJV.
“You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place” ~ Psalm 31:8 (kjv)
I had a problem really grasping the meaning of this until I checked The Message:
“you disarmed my tormentors, You didn’t leave me in their clutches but gave me room to breathe.” ~ Psalm 31:8 (The Message)
And it just made amazing sense.
The Tormentors
Tormentors can come in different shapes and sizes and from different quarters. All the little stressors in our lives can be seen as ‘tormentors.’ Sometimes, even our family can be tormentors.
Disarming the Tormentors
I believe that disarming of the tormentors means that in our minds, these things that have been tormenting us cease to be torments. With the help of God, they no longer torment us. Their power to harass and torment has been disarmed. This comes ONLY from getting room to breathe.
Breathing Room
This is seeking time out with God. It could be on an early morning stroll or in the bathroom. It does not really matter where although it might help if you have a particular place where you retreat to talk with God. But for me, even the kitchen sink works just fine and I have verses of scripture on the wall there because I spend a lot of time in the kitchen.
God has made his grace available for us and provided the room to breathe that we need. We just need to make time to bask in his grace and get refreshed. If you are a WAHM (and even if you’re not), I encourage you to seek the breathing room; take time out to breathe in the peace of the Holy Spirit.
